Around 7 million UK residents spend their holidays in Wales each year, so we asked Daily Post readers to vote on their favourite holiday spots in Wales.

The shortlist was full of popular Welsh holiday locations, such as Gower, Anglesey, Cardigan, St David’s, Tenby, Swansea Bay, Abersoch, Brecon and Aberystwyth, any number of destinations could have been a worthy winner.

But with thousands of our readers voting in the poll, there could be only one destination crowned as the best place for a holiday in Wales.

According to Daily Post readers who voted in the poll, the most popular place for a holiday in Wales is Tenby, Pembrokeshire.

The Pembrokeshire holiday spot was the the most popular location on a shortlist of 50 Welsh holiday towns, securing 19.5% of the vote.

But the list of favourite places for a holiday in Wales was dominated by locations in North Wales and West Wales.

Councillor David Pugh, Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Tourism said he was delighted at Tenby’s poll win.

“Polls such as these can only be positive for tourism, ” he said.

“They are the best possible advertising for our county because they are the testimony of people, who have already visited us and have liked what we have to offer.

“We are very fortunate here in Pembrokeshire in that we have a backdrop of stunning scenery, wonderful beaches and an abundance of places for people to visit - from small picturesque villages to larger resorts.

“Tenby is a jewel and all the more charming for its unspoilt nature and wealth of colourful historic buildings.”

Councillor Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said:

“Tourism generates over £300 million a year for the Swansea Bay economy and Gower’s contribution can’t be understated.
